2020 VISION ASMIRT-NZIMRT Joint Conference - Melbourne, Australia

The New Zealand Institute of Medical Radiation Technology and The Victorian Branch of the Australian Society of Medical Imaging and Radiation Therapy (ASMIRT) warmly welcome delegates for the 4th combined ASMIRT-NZIMRT conference, to be held in Melbourne, 14 to 17 May 2020.

The theme of “Vision” offers a broad range of options and for us, a focus of innovation, imagination and ideas. Our mission statement is to deliver a conference that provides high quality content and delivery of presentations. We also have a focus on presentations that introduce new and emerging technologies and techniques and clinically applicable content, in a venue known for its inspirational design, maximising delegate opportunities to gather and network.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER BIOGRAPHIES:

Rhonda -Joy Sweeney

Rhonda-Joy Sweeney is in the process of submitting her PhD thesis through the Discipline of Medical Imaging Science at The University of Sydney, Australia. Her thesis title is ‘Mammographic Positioning Criteria for the Craniocaudal View: Knowledge and Preferences Explained through a Mixed Methods Design’. A publication arising from her initial studies has been published in the British Journal of Radiology, and is available online (https://www.birpublications.org/doi/full/10.1259/bjr.20170611): Sweeney, R. J. I., Lewis, S. J., Hogg, P., & McEntee, M. F. (2018). A review of mammographic positioning image quality criteria for the craniocaudal projection. British Journal of Radiology, 91(1082) 10.1259/bjr.2017061 Rhonda-Joy is also a Professional Teaching Fellow with the Medical Imaging programme, Department of Anatomy and Medical Imaging at the University of Auckland in New Zealand. Her teaching is evidence-based to facilitate in the student a reflective and critical approach to best practice in order to provide optimal outcomes for the patient.

Dr Aleksandra Popadich

Dr Popadich is a Breast, Endocrine and General Surgeon. She studied medicine at Otago University and undertook general surgery training in New Zealand. Dr Popadich completed two years post-fellowship training specialising in Endocrine Surgery and Surgical Oncology (Breast) in Sydney. She is a member of BreastSurg ANZ and The American Society of Breast Surgeons. Her clinical interests are in surgical management of the breast and thyroid and parathyroid disorders. Dr Monica Saini Monica Saini is an internationally recognized breast imaging expert and lecturer. Her focus is breast density and its global impact on breast cancer. Monica’s education includes nursing and medical degrees, and she is a fellowship trained breast radiologist. She worked in private practice in the U.S. and served as medical director of GE Healthcare ABUS division. In 2017, Monica and her family moved to New Zealand. Monica now evaluates patients at Hutt Valley DHB in Wellington and empowers Volpara as their Chief Medical Officer. She was a 2019 TEDx Wellington speaker where she shared her passion on using medical transparency to educate women on their breast health so we might diminish their fear and inspire their curiosity.
